The Piledriver UK Wrestler Rankings #4 - which UK stars have impressed this month?
The best of Britain will once again be ranked, but who will end the year on the top of the table?
Hello, and welcome to a brand new issue of the Piledriver wrestling newsletter, and another edition of a regular content feature, the Piledriver UK Wrestler Rankings. Following on from last time, I am ranking the best five British wrestlers in this continued list, with names dropping out and rising back up based on their matches and promos.
Last time out, my fellow Geordie PAC took the top spot, with Drew McIntyre and Will Ospreay falling out of the list entirely due to inactivity, but they will be back this time around, having both had impressive months. So, the big question is, who will keep their place after finding success and shining on the biggest stage.
So, without further ado, here is the fourth edition of the Piledriver UK Wrestler Rankings. Let me know what you think in the comments below, and I hope you enjoy.
The Piledriver UK Wrestler Rankings #4 - December 2024
As always, it has been difficult to choose just five UK wrestlers to be on this list, but I have just about been able to do that. Honourable mentions this month go to the likes of Zack Sabre Jr., Piper Niven and Saraya, who just missed out this, but I’ve come to the conclusion that the following five stars will make up the fourth Piledriver UK Wrestler Ranking.
5. Joe Hendry
The man whose social media buzz seems to be continuing indefinitely has been able to hold onto a spot on this list thanks to three major wins that he picked up over the past month. The first was in the Thanksgiving Turkey Bowl match at TNA Turning Point, which set up an impressive few weeks for the Scottish star.
Joe Hendry followed this up with a big victory on the WrestleCade SuperShow against Raj Dhesi, and then, for the second time, he became the number one contender for the TNA World Championship by winning a four way match at TNA Final Resolution. I really feel that this would be the best time to put the title on Hendry, giving him a huge win over an established star like Nic Nemeth, elevating him even further.
4. Drew McIntyre
Despite Drew McIntyre just having one match back in WWE during this rankings period, the impact that he has made with attacks to Sami Zayn, Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso can’t be understated. The Scottish Warrior first attacked Sami and Jey on Raw, setting up a clash with the Zayn at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
This match was dominated by Drew, as he beat Sami Zayn down again and again when he tried to rally, eventually putting him away with a vicious Claymore Kick. Since then, further brawls with Zayn and Jimmy Uso have showed that McIntyre will do whatever it takes to punish those who joined forces with Roman Reigns inside War Games.
3. Giulia
After debuting on this list last time, Giulia has moved up a place thanks to her huge win in the Women’s Iron Survivor Challenge match, as she outlasted the best that NXT has to offer to earn a Women’s Championship match with Roxanne Perez. The London born star had to qualify for the innovative bout, which she did, by beating Kelani Jordan.
The match itself was an incredible watch, with all five women putting on an unbelievable show, and the finish came when every competitor had one fall on the board with just seconds to go. Giulia managed to pin Zaria with just 10 seconds left on the clock, winning the match and ensuring she takes a strong podium place on this list.
2. PAC
The Geordie who got the number one place last time has managed to stay near the top, but was just pipped over the line, after another strong month. The Man that Gravity Forgot has been continuing to dominate AEW as part of Death Riders, having great matches with the likes of Jay White and Orange Cassidy.
He then took a brief trip to Mexico, facing Volador Jr. at a CMLL event, but unfortunately coming out on the losing end, and he teamed with fellow Death Riders Jon Moxley and Wheeler Yuta to beat Adam Page, Jay White and Orange Cassidy. If PAC continues to perform at this level, the Newcastle native will find himself at the top of this list once again.
1. Will Ospreay
Will Ospreay came back with a bang at AEW Full Gear, despite coming up short against his former friend and teammate Kyle Fletcher. This match stole the show on the night, and Ospreay didn’t stop there, with impressive wins against Juice Robinson and Claudio Castagnoli in the Gold League of the Continental Classic tournament.
In his most recent match in the tournament, the Aerial Assassin once again shone, as he took on Darby Allin and was ultimately defeated, in a match between two of the biggest babyfaces in AEW. Will Ospreay creates magic with any opponent, whenever he steps in the ring, and a tournament like the Continental Classic is the perfect vehicle for that, so Ospreay takes the gold medal for this month.
That’s all for this week’s Piledriver, I hope you enjoyed, and see you next time.
Thanks,
Owen Younger and the Piledriver team.
